I don't know about you, but I have never purchased a car or passed up on one because of its gasoline mileage rating. But times change and I may have to also. Recently I was thinking about what my next car would be and I came across an article in Autoweek's 2009 Buyers Guide. They listed the top "Fuel Sippers" Here is their list:
Toyota Prius - $22,000 – 46.6 mpg
Honda Civic Hybrid - $23,500 – 42.1 mpg
Smart Fortwo Convertible - $13,500 – 36.1 mpg
Volkswagen Jetta TDI – $21,900 – 34.2 mpg
Nissan Altima Hybrid - $26,650 – 34.1 mpg
Toyota Camry Hybrid - $26,150 – 33.4 mph
Ford Escape Hybrid - $29,305 – 32.1 mph
Toyota Yaris - $12,205 – 31.4 mph
Toyota Corolla - $15,350 – 31.4 mph
Mini Cooper - $18,550 – 31.4 mph
The recent auto shows have introduced other cars that should be in this list in 2009, and some of the numbers may change. For example the next Toyota Prius should be rated at 50.0 mph.
Leaving all of that aside, which of the this list would you be looking at as your next car?
My choice? The Mimi Cooper in either the "S" or "JCW" trim.
